Lesson 1 of 2 · 6 min
Find out where it actually goes
Before deciding where your money should go, spend one month finding out where it already goes — the gap between the two is bigger than anyone expects.
Guess what you spent on food last month. Write the number down, then open your bank statement and look. The two rarely match, and the statement is almost always the larger one — because the gap lives in small, frequent, forgettable payments rather than the big ones you remember.
UPI has made this worse. A ₹40 payment takes two seconds and leaves no impression, so the money is gone and the memory of it never forms.
Do one month of honest tracking before you build any plan. Your bank statement and UPI history already have the data — you are not starting from nothing.
